This chart shows unit sales transition of handheld hardware in the four major European markets.
Unlike the U.S., Nintendo DS hardware sales declined about 17% year-on-year. The European market saw an earlier market penetration of Nintendo DS, but could not further grow the market this year.
I'd like to talk about software. This chart shows a comparison of unit sales transition of handheld software in Japanese market in the same period of three years.
I previously mentioned that the Japanese home console software market is smaller than the American and European ones, but the situation is rather different in the handheld market. The ratio of software unit sales per hardware sale only differs slightly from the American and European markets. Thus we can say that the Japanese market has maintained its momentum for handheld software market.
After year-on-year decline until June, several hit titles like "Dragon Quest 9", "Pokémon Heart Gold", "Pokémon Soul Silver" and "Tomodachi Collection" rejuvenated the market, contributing to a year-on-year growth by 7% so far.
With such backgrounds, Nintendo DS has increased software market share in the potable market once again.
This chart shows unit sales transition of handheld software in the U.S. market. Even though the sales of Nintendo DS software increased, the growth remains around 5%. The situation could not meet the steep growth of hardware sales.
This chart shows that the European market, which had seen steep growth in the past three consecutive years to become as large as the U.S. market, declined year-on-year.
Nintendo DS has even increased its market share, but given the decreased unit sales, we recognize that it is time to figure out the next step.
This is the unit software sales transition of both the Japanese home console and handheld markets combined. Despite the growth of Nintendo DS, the whole market shrunk due to the decline of Wii and other factors.
